Ubuntu! An alternative to Windows and Mac

Are you tired of all the Viruses, Spy-ware and Ad-ware Plaguing your Windows Installation? Ever though about switching to another Operating System, but never could afford the time and patience it takes to learning all of the ins and outs?

There are three operating systems people tend to use. The ever so popular "Windows XP and/or Vista," the competition "Mac OS X," and the renegade "Linux." Windows has been around forever, it's the best OS for dumber people, plus it already comes installed when you purchase a new comp, not to mention the amount of software that's available. Macs, on the other hand, tend to go for users who are already tired of Windows, and seek a more advanced OS. Mac OS X, like it or not Window Users, is much better than XP! Actually it was voted by PC Magazine has one of the best products for 2006. The downside to these two OS is the amount of viruses targeted at these users. Its a huge annoyance trying to get rid of malicious software while trying to get some work done. AND, these OS come with their own applications that they WANT you to use right out of the box. Leaving the advanced user having to download and install the better software that's out there, which is usually Open Source Software.

What about Linux? For startes, Viruses are non existent to this OS, as is Spy-ware and Ad-ware in general. It's Open Source, which means people from all over the world get together and contribute to it's development. In my opinion that makes it safe, fast, and secure! It's geared toward people that want to liberate from all the commercial hype the other OS come with. It's either them or them right? Not with Linux it isn't! Apart from the fact that it's available to anyone, anytime, anywhere, it doesn't cost a cent, penny, or nickel! Now there are many distributions out there, that require expertise in setting up the installation, but there is one that is starting to take this process a whole lot simpler. Ubuntu, widely known by many, including myself, as the best Linux distribution to date, will make you want to drop Windows from the start, and Mac of course. Why? Because its geared to both novice and advanced users at the same time. The eye candy that comes pre-installed, the software, the ease of use, the GUI, everything has been nicely done.

Ubuntu is a term from Africa meaning "Humanity to others," or ,"I am what I am because of who we all are" and it will most likely become the one Linux distro that will have many people switching over. It's Open Source software, and just like Firefox, has a really nice and helpful community helping out on the development of the project.

I must say, that I consider Open Source Software the best kind of software that exists! Safe, secure, and even fun are just a some words being used by it's users. So if you would like to give Ubuntu a try. Get going! There's even an installer called Wubi that will install Ubuntu on your Windows XP so that you can switch back and forth whenever you want! Go ahead, give it a try, oh and did I mention the project leaders provide COMMERCIAL SUPPORT from hundreds companies worldwide! Not that you would need it considering the community that revolves around it. Any question is quickly answered in the Fourms! The team is also throwing in security updates for at least 18 months. Of course that might change as time goes on and more users get involved. Take it from me and try it out, come on you won't regret it!

Sure fire way to Succeed Online

Why is it that some people find success online, while others are still trying to penetrate the online world? Either with Blogs, Affiliate Marketing, E-Commerce Sites, Adsense Arbitrage, etc... As I have come across plenty of people who are still getting their feet wet, they're still asking themselves one question, what am I missing?

I have also asked myself that question, and the answer is easy for those that are still new to this business world. A MENTOR! Someone that has already been there and can teach you the ropes. This is still a new world for the businessman, and yes my friend, in order for you to succeed online, you must think of yourself as a business, or else this is only a hobby for you and you are not the "real deal." So, if this is a hobby, I ask you right now to stop reading, this isn't for you.

So what do I mean by a mentor? This is a person who is making at least a 6 figure income on the web. This person knows everything there is to know. These guys go by the name of, "Guru." These Gurus know how to do just about everything. These guys started real small, worked at it real hard, and made a killing with their effort. All these guys will tell you the same thing. PUT IN THE WORK! Some people start at it, realize that it isn't an overnight deal, and give up. Well if this were easy, then anyone could do it. In real life, it takes effort, some level of intelligence, and common sense.

A mentor is someone who will take you under their wing, teach you most of what they know about making money online, and will get you where you need to be in order for you to succeed.

So guys, get yourself a mentor, and this will ensure your success. Some charge, some are willing to do it for free, some you will have to make a deal with, but there are so many people out there making a good buck, and some of them will jump at the chance of having an apprentice. So get at it, no time to waste!

"If you BLOG it, they will PAY..." Blogvertise will Pay!

Many people are generally aware of Google's and Yahoo's advertisement programs. Usually each click can net some web masters a couple of hundred dollars per month. For the beginner blog, however, those clicks might equal of up to around $10 to $30 dollars on the first month and, with enough effort, a steady increase each month after that.

A much better and more rewarding method of earning an income via blogging has become a fad for most daily posters. It's getting paid for Blogging, simple as that. The downside to most services is that they require an active blog for at least 2 - 3 months, others asks for high traffic, average google pagerank, registered under google's search engine, etc... I've recently reviewed a service called Blogsvertise where the requirements are not such a headache like the others! No kidding. You see Blogvertise is slightly more lenient in requirements, and getting started is a snatch. I wonder how many people are using this service?

PayPal's Unpopular Practices

PayPal sends these types of EMAIL all the time:

PayPal as a regulated financial services company is required under law to assess its customers against certain lists of individuals and entities which have had sanctions imposed against them. PayPal as a financial institution is required to comply with these regulations in multiple jurisdictions where we do business.

Where a potential name match is identified, PayPal's policy is to lock the account and request further identifying documentation. The decision to lock your account has been taken solely by PayPal in line with its compliance policy in regards to the legislation covering financial sanctions.

We decided to take a closer look at this and started a Google search regarding PayPal freezing accounts. We came across a couple of sites that host, "PayPal horror stories." One story really struck me. Apparently, PayPal has had terrible dealings with customers in the past. Complaints range from unnecessary locking of accounts and/or funds, to mishandling of their customer's money. PayPal went to court for this. They were forced to pay $9.25 Million Dollars in damages to more than 10,000 PayPal accounts. PayPal simply walked away after paying the settlement.

A little further into the Google Search I discovered that PayPal has been known to block donations for the Katrina victims, up to $30,000, from the popular website something awful. One word for the victims: Ouch.

It's understandable the need to safeguard the company and to point out fraudulent use whenever it occurs. However, PayPal really needs to get better at it and change its practices if it plans to have loyal customers in the future.

For people who are in need of a merchant account, check this place out. For those of you that need to transfer money worldwide, iKobo is a great alternative.

Everyone Owns the Fastest Computer on Earth!

You might or might not now know this, but MOST people own a computer that is a whole lot faster than the one used to send Apollo 11 to the Moon in the 1960s! That's how much technology has evolved, and all thanks to the Government. And it's only gonna get better. Computers are evolving extremely fast. However, our current material computers come no where near the amazing piece of blubbery fat sitting between your shoulders.

You gotta ask yourself. What's the fastest computer on earth right now? Well not only does EVERYONE own one, it's free. That's because your born with it. It's the Brain! Your brain, unlike Windows and other programs, makes zero mistakes. It can understand multiple languages, listen to any speaker, vocalize sound, process complex visual images and more. My labtop sure as heck can't do all that. I know for sure that my labtop can't have sex and consider raising a family. Now imagine the day we invent something that can do everything I just mentioned. It might be something like that Movie AI from Steven Spielberg. They might even turn on us in the future!!! Ok just kidding. Hehe :)

BlogCharm's New Approach to The Term, "Blogging for Profit."

BlogCharm asks a real simple question: "Why should blog hosts keep all of the revenue when it is the bloggers that do all of the hard work?"

BlogCharm plans to take a much different approach to the term, "Blogging for Profit." It's part of their mission statement, "Why not get paid for something you love to do," Now, there are people out here that feel that that's just plain evil, how could anyone stood so low, blahbidi blah. Honestly, companies are making money of of us, what is wrong with bloggers making money as well.

There's just something completley wrong with this picture that really prevented me to take part in this. You would have to host the blog with their hosting service. In other words for those who already have a blog... you would have to start all over.On the positive side, they plan to share profits 50/50. That's pretty good considering the fact that all you're doing is writing, and they take care of hosting, finding the clients, provide support, etc... Apparently the forum does have quite a bit of activity. If anyone checks it out please tell me about it.

The Silence Trap

Based on a Post I read over at John Chow dot Com, a Web Hosting Company from Berlin sets up the site about the Virginia Shootings, who's name I will not post here. I'll tell you why in a sec.

If you happen to visit the site, which I hope you won't, you will notice how the website is NOT loaded with ads, so at first glance there is no reason for anyone to think it is being used for link bait in order to make some money from advertisements and the like. However, what the site is getting is a lot of visitors. Which in turn amounts to a higher PageRank with Google, and Top Level Rankings on Digg and Technorati. This way the Berlin Web Hosting Company is gaining Higher rankings in search engines and Blog Communities. John states that when people forget about this site the company will use it to redirect visitors to their Homepage.

John claims it to be evil, and I couldn't agree more. However by posting about this on Blogs, we are unintentionally promoting the site. As am I in a way, but I'm doing so indirectly... since I will not say the name of the site nor link the URL. The trap has been set, and plenty of blogs fell for it. Whoever posted the Evil Site's Image, ultimately missed this little bit of malvertisement technique, and attributed to it's high rankings. I have not visited the site, and plan on not doing so, nor will I post the image for the Evil Site.

I will say, however, that it is much better to post about something as tragic, rather than simply staying, "quiet," about it. I take it we could learn more from commenting on it instead of doing absolutely nothing. If you have no clue as to what I'm talking about, that's OK. But if your curious just ask me and I will explain, otherwise stay away from the site and don't look it up on Google. Please.

Digiframe your Frame!

Picture and Photo fanatics get to indulge on sites like Flickr and Imageshack. Massive amounts of bytes are stored on their servers daily. The best part? It's accessible anywhere in the world, and its shared by millions of users. The services that keep appearing for these die hard enthusiasts just keep getting more and more interesting. Look at the service of DigiFrame for example. Let's say you have a really great picture that not only you would like to share with the rest of the world, you also want it framed so that everyone who walks in your front door can see it, and awe in all it's glory. Ok, less melodramatics right?

Now what does it take to get a picture framed? Ummm, let's see. Get in your car, drive over to Kodak or your nearest K-Mart, get in line, talk to the clerk, choose the frame, pay, and drive back home. Could there be an easier more professional way of going about this? Well, we do live in an era where the Internet has bestowed upon us great tools and services, like DigiFrame. The frames are amazing, some offer MP3 Audio Playback, others an internal memory, a couple offer a slide show of your photo, and others come with a built in microphone. Technology is great!

DigiFrame also allows you to choose from lots of professional framing brands like Axion, Impecca, Photoc, Vialta, just to name a few. Just in case you need extra help they also offer customer support. The best part of DigiFrame is the extremely fast shipping, 1-3 days. Not to mention that the Shipping and Handling is free. And, just in case you are not satisfied with the service you also have a 30 MBG. Of course, don't take my word for it. Look up their samples and tell me what you think!

The Future of our Earth Uncertain

Ahhh, NASA. The Web not only provides us with billions of articles, it can show you anything. Ranging from a description of the fungi under your bathroom sink, to a recently released NASA video about a Massive Explosion of the Sun.

But why is NASA overlooked in the web? Is it because we still do not "need" to worry about the condition of the planet. What kind of people are Bloggers and Internet Entrepreneurs when it comes to pollution? Do we care?

I definitely think that NASA is one of the most important organizations in the world. The earth will not be around forever my friend. Where will we go once this place gets fed up with our pollution? And who are the two biggest contributors to the problem? USA and India. Why? Have you seen a traffic picture from those two cities? Do you live there? To top it off, every other country in the world is following in their footsteps.

NASA's discoveries will undermine the future of our race. Of course, the Government doesn't really care about saving the world. What is the true intention of any Government with the race to space? To militarize it! This of course could be another post, but I'll stop it right here, and if you would like a further read on the subject, check this post out.

P2P Schemes to Make Money

Just recently I read on a Yahoo! Answers post about a "John Doe" who downloaded a recently released Spiderman 3 movie file from a P2P Network. The file was in RAR format. When the user descompressed the file, he found the movie to be in another compressed format called .zix. Apparently to decompress the file and watch the movie you must download and install a new software called Winzix.

This is where the scam comes in. The person who created the Movie File knows that in order for you to watch the movie you must install Winzix, in doing so you also install some adware that comes with the software. The Adware is only part of the scheme that will make the scam artist money. After you spent hours downloading the Movie, you are more than likely to install the program just to watch the movie. You MUST surf on over to their website! Which means free traffic!!!

But wait, theres more! The scam artist included a couple of instructions on how you can do a similar process so that you can make money as well. This process involves creating a website where you host the passwords for the password protected movie files. People are obligated to surf on over to your site in order to get the password to unlock the compressed movie file. In other words, more free traffic! If anyone actually tried this out let me know if it works. That doesn't mean I'll try it out, of course, just curious. ;)

Vapaeso Slight Name Change

Today I decided the name, "Evolution," is not catchy enough. So I changed the name to, "The Internet Re-Evolution." Why is that? you ask. Well, I believe in the name. We are experiencing an evolution in our daily lives because of the Internet. However, the Internet will evolve plenty of times over. Even after our lifetimes the Internet will have plenty of other users or fads that we cannot foresee.

Hence the name Re-Evolution. An example of that is Web 2.0. The first phase, "Web 1.0," has passed already and we're in the era of Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, Sharing, and whatnot. I wonder what Web 3.0 will be like?

I Have to Assist a Conference... In China!

Remember the old days of going to a Conference? How everyone would walk in, salute the Boss, gather a seat, get your report ready, and wait for the Boss to open his mouth. Well that was me back when I was part of the rat race. Now a days there seems to be a whole new way of going to conferences.

Video Conferencing, for example, are some of the best ways to get some face time around the office, whether your transmuting, or in a whole different continent some 10,000 miles away. Not to mention it's excellent for first time impressions. In today's world most companies require sophisticated and reliable video conferencing software. Some great features that you must keep in mind are ease of use, versatility, security, presentation integration, desktop sharing, and audio support, just to name a few.

A lot of video conferencing softwares lack these really important features. Others, however, like MegaMeeting, come with all these features included. Now there are a couple of other web conferencing softwares that could be mentioned, this is just one that comes highly recommended. So whether your a starting business that needs some face time with your employees, locally or internationally, video conferencing may be the next step for your business needs. Take a sneak peek at what benefits it can bring to your organization.

I Learned Something New!

I learned about Epigenesis today! It's pretty interesting stuff.

I just wanted to take a little break and lay back for a sex.., I mean sec. Basically I just wanted to share some of the things I enjoy doing on the Internet now a days. First and foremost, I love to learn. It's just one of those things I can never get tired of doing. My weakness, however, is that I get bored on a subject to quickly, and instead of absorbing all the information on a subject, I take in only what I can stand and then I move on to the next interesting thing I want to learn about.

Pause a second. What do you mostly do on the Web? If you're the type to just browse, get bored, and do something else. Your only using a fraction of a very capable learning tool that's sitting right in front of your face. I admit I don't just use the Web to just learn and read stuff. I also watch YouTube you know. Then again there's some very cool videos on YouTube that can teach you a couple of things. Anyways I would love to see a couple of comments right about now... Ok, kidding.

Russian's Laws on the Web.

Read this:

"In March, Putin signed a decree merging two existing federal agencies – one for media oversight and the protection of culture, the other for telecommunications monitoring – into a single body, the Federal Service for the Oversight of Mass Communications and Protection of Cultural Heritage. It is perhaps no accident that the Russian word for 'oversight' used in the agency's name, nadzor, has a somewhat sinister ring for a Russian speaker: It commonly refers to the supervision of a prisoner. The new agency, which will start its work in about three months, will oversee and license broadcasters, the print media, and websites."
Can you Image that? What if this were to happen in your part of the world? I live in Colombia so I'm still waiting for much better ADSL technology to arrive, but come on... this is ridiculos. Thank GOD for democracy right? This news story for me, and hopefully for some of you, really hit me.

Now I have a question: Is that even possible? Now what Russia wants to do is control the Internet. But think about it, just like anywhere else in the world with acces to the World Wide Web, taking control of it means taking control of a culture. The Governement wants to control the people's opinions, hobbies, voices, etc... I don't think it's possible at all. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Is Porn Losing Popularity on the Web?

A couple of months ago saw a hilarious WOW video clip. If I remember correctly it was about a Troll singing, repeatedly, "The Internet is for porn." Then a cow would appear and state otherwise, saying how we use it for plenty of other things like content sharing, chatting, and whatnot. I tend to agree with both the troll and the cow.

Ever since the 90s, the Internet has become the porn addicts hang out spot. Making up a large part of the Internet community. All types of porn can be found on the web, and NO I won't go into the details of how people can find certain things erotic on the web... Anyways, recently I read an article on the Economists about the recent decline of porn activity on the web. It states that in the first quarter of 2007 there has been a significant decline in PORN on the web.

I would be retarded to state that I wasn't familiar with porn content. However, as time goes on, newer and better constructive uses can be found for the Internet other than sharing porn content. Could it be that the community is finally maturing?

Google's 1st Quarter Profit reaches $1 Billion

Compared from the first quarter of 2006, this new quarter of 2007 has surpassed the old one by 69%, with a profit reach of $1 Billion Dollars. I compare this report with Yahoo, and I still wonder WHY does Yahoo have #1 in Alexa rankings but cannot surpass Google in profits? Google seems to be on a hot streak. It plans to reach out on new advertisement techniques, acquire Doubleclick, and go up against Microsoft by releasing a program similar to that of Powerpoint.

Even with all the problem Google has had with Copyright lawsuits from Viacom, it hasn't slowed down one bit. Google plans to release something called, "Claim Your Content." This will be used to minimize the use of unlawful video uploading on YouTube, and automatically remove content that doesn't have copyrights. It will be released later this year.

Yahoo's Earnings not what was Expected.

Despite the fact that the company has reached #1 in Alexa rankings, it has failed to surpass it's gross expectations for the 1st Quarter. Based on the earnings of the first Quarter of 2006, Yahoo's 2007 earnings fell by 11%. Even so, Terry Semel, president of Yahoo, commented on how he is, "Satisfied by the companie's results and that it has performed just as it was expected." Wallstreet states otherwise by saying that the projected earnings were far more superior than what Yahoo has achieved.

Mayor Blogging Mistakes!

This community project post I found via Green Llama is really worth a read for all those bloggers who are still getting their feet wet. This type of info is priceless! I highly recommend a quick read for everyone. Cheers!

Google's Bookmarks.

Finally Google catched on the idea of setting up a Bookmark service just like del.icio.us. What Google offers more so than del.icio.us is a more array of services integrated together, just like Google has always done. I just installed the toolbar again just to see what it was like. It also gives you the option of setting up buttons for the most popular and useful blogs on the toolbar. I guess it's worth a look.

We use the Internet, and the Internet uses us.

I ran into this excellent video on YouTube. It's really great considering the way it makes you think about how Web 2.0 is developing. Basically we are using the internet, and the internet is using us. At one point it mentions how each time we create a new link or hypertext, we are teaching the internet new content, or giving it more life. As it expands and evolves into too much information, who will be able to organize the content it so that it can actually be found? Sure enough we have been leaving this task to Google, without our intervention nor hearing our suggestions. Now with Web 2.0, there are Social Bookmarks, Blogs, Podcasts, Wikis... user sharing content is what it's all about. We are setting the stage. Watch the video!

Adobe's Steps Up to the Plate

Today Adobe announced plans to release a new version of their flash into a free Media Player. The difference between this one and Microsoft's Windows Media Player, Apple, and Real Network's is that it will use RSS Feeds instead in order to download watchable Video on your desktop. Sorta like a Personal TV on your computer, except a lot faster and cheaper! Another nice feature to note will be that it will not matter whether your online or not, it will download your chosen content automatically and display it at your leisure.

How in the heck will this make Adobe Money? It's free isn't it? Well the answer to that is that they plan to allow advertisements to run on the bottom of the player while you are watching video. This version will be released within the next couple of months.

Microsoft Silverlight vs Adobe Flash

Microsoft Silverlight has released an evaluation version of their reproductive media player software that will rival that of Adobe's ever popular Flash. Their appealing presentation showed close to about a couple of new visual implementations that this baby can pull. It's basically oriented towards reaching out the low cost crowd and promises to deliver an effective solution to high quality visual and audio presentations. It will also work with Macintosh OS X 10.4.8 or later for both Power PC–based and Intel-based hardware via a Universal Binary. So it will work for either operating system but only for three browsers, Safari, Firefox, and IE.

PC World's 50 Most Important People

Not long ago, PC World Magazine published an article about the 50 most important people on the web. Now, this is an important matter for the internet. And that's because these people are the ones who "control" the majority of the content you see on the web. "Control how?" you say, well it's simple. They are what we read, watch, and listen... practically on a daily basis. They control the mainstream of the internet, the news, the updates, the new practices, and the new techonological advances. Of course this is all coming from a legitimate perspective, since, no Hacker is listed here. It is not entirely well known by the public that if it weren't for Hackers the world would be a completley different place today, technologically speaking of course. You might not be able to have a PC in front of you right now. The creator of Apple Computer (not on this list of course) was a hacker who hacked the first Atari and Hacked "Micro-Soft's" (original name) software.

What truly amazed me on this list is the last entry, number 50. Which, if you haven't been catching up on My Space success stories, is the sexy Tila Tequila. The chick that acquired mass fame with the use of a My Space profile and has landed record deals and other similar business agreements, even Movie roles, all with the use of the internet. She has proven that it doesn't take Radio or the TV to reach popularity with the Media these days. Another person that I enjoyed is #3, the creator of Bit Torrent Bram Cohen. It's the most widely used downloading file type by the pirating community. With this little handy file type anyone that knows where to look can download all typed of Games, Movies, CDs, and Books. The purpose of the Bit Torrent is to help move large files over the web. Nowadays the pirating community seeds (or Uploads and make available for download) just about anything, no matter the size. And just like any new pirating trend, a Quick Google search will reveal the little "set back" it had with the Motion Picture of America for copied content on the network. Anyways, here's the list:

No Pain, No Game!

Just a thought on a Sunday I wanted to share:

Vapaeso is still brand new to the scene of the blogging business. I sometimes ask myself if this will really take off. I don't think the right answer to the question is, "You just have to wait and see!" It's more of an effort thing. Recently I read a great post about a webworker that started his business years ago and today is managing a community of more than 700,000 visitors per day. It's really inspiring to read these types of stories to anyone who would like to take a shot at this industry, better yet it's uplifting to know that there are people out there who feel exactly the same way but in the mist of the battle, they never gave up and they never surrendered. They kept going. It's about research, knowing your battle ground, knowing your competitors, knowing your content, your community, and your goals. It will take time and effort.

Tomorrow I will have great content for Vapaeso. You can bet on it. I might just do a little SEO as well ;) Cheers. Edgar Q.

Web 2.0 Expo

What is the Web 2.0 Expo?

Web 2.0 Expo is an annual gathering of technical, design, marketing, and business professionals who are building the next generation web. Web 2.0 Expo features the most innovative and successful Internet industry figures and companies providing attendees with examples of business models, development paradigms, and design strategies to enable mainstream businesses and new arrivals to the Web 2.0 world to take advantage of this new generation of services and opportunities. The Web 2.0 Expo is co-presented by CMP Technology and O'Reilly Media.

The Web continues to be an engine of economic growth, fueled by a host of new business models, development models, and design patterns that collectively fall under the umbrella of Web 2.0, a term coined at the birth of the Web 2.0 Conference, a joint venture between O’Reilly Media and CMP Technology.

To meet the increasing demand for Web 2.0 comprehension and skills, and to build a broader Web 2.0 community, O'Reilly Media and CMP Technology have launched the first Web 2.0 Expo on April 15-18, 2007 at Moscone West in San Francisco. Web 2.0 Expo, a companion event to the Web 2.0 Conference (recently renamed Web 2.0 Summit), is the first conference and tradeshow for the rapidly growing ranks of designers and developers, product managers, entrepreneurs, VCs, marketers, and business strategists who are embracing the opportunities created by Web 2.0 technologies.

Time to Get a Job?

In the vast void of what is know today as the Internet, there are stories of men and women that after the sheer thought of defeat, give up their efforts to create an adequate amount of income as a web worker. Well no one ever said it's easy. What happened to no pain no game?

The years bring on changes. In the old days there were salesmen and saleswomen who would do the door to door routine in order to sell something. Now we have eBay. In the old days there were paperboys on paper routes throwing newspapers all over the place, now we have the internet with thousands of newspaper articles. There was a time when people would have to actually get a degree, graduate, build a resume, go job hunting, get hired, please your boss, don't be late, be part of the rat race, and eventually retire. Now there are bloggers!

Of course there are those that do not live in the current year and cannot easily see this change in our working careers. As John Evans once said, " The Internet is like a giant jellyfish. You can't step on it. You can't go around it. You've got to get through it."

Google's Power on the Rise

Microsoft may be unmatched in computer software, but who is dominating the scene on the world wide web? Well, unless you've been living under a rock on an Island of the shores of Antarctica, Google is! The company which started as a research project back in January of 1996 and what used to be called, "Backrub," is clearly becoming the web's most dominating company. Their HQ, named "Googleplex," is located in Mountain View, California and has been voted by Forbes as the Number 1 company to work for in January 2007.

The company is clearly dominating the web. Think about it, they basically store all of the Internet's Content on their servers. In other words they could, in theory, have a copy of the internet's content. Mix that with their advertisement power and who knows when they will surpass Microsoft. Which brings us to the question of the day. When will Google surpass Microsoft? Watch a video about Google's Power in the Video Section.

Google: The Future of the Internet

Google is the most powerful search engine on the planet. Its used by millions of people from all over the world. But how does it manage to differentiate the right search result from the rest of the trash? The Answer: "PageRank." A complex mathematical formula which, to put it simply, labels a website as imporant depending on how many times it's link shows up on other websites. In other words if Page A shows up on Pages B, C, D.... all the way to Page Z, then it would have a high PageRank.

Also, the more important the page, the higher the rank will be. As an example, if www.vapaeso.com happens to be linked in www.google.com or www.microsoft.com, then you can bet that by the next day www.vapaeso.com will have a higher PageRank because Google and Microsoft are important web sites. Check out Google's Technology Page for more info.

List of Web Hosting Websites

For every type of website, blog, or forum there exist a specific type of hosting service. There are full featured web hosting services which, for the advanced user, allows the site to run advanced features (scripts) such as PHP, Java, and Ajax just to mention a few. Of course for people who just want a hobby site, there are services to cover those needs as well, although the functionality of the site will be strictly limited. There are even more specific hosting services for those that want a blog (Blogger), upload images (Imageshack) or videos (YouTube), install a shopping cart, or even host a game server (WOW).

I've compiled a list of websites that carry a list of the best hosting service. This way you can visit them all and make the right decision based upon the site's ratings. Each site has a slightly different lay out.

Flock, Time for Another Browser?

Anyone heard of Flock? The new social browser using the Firefox engine. It's designed specifically for that aspect of the web and is uniquely more intriguing than Firefox. It has a built in function of sharing and uploading photos using either Flickr (Yahoo) service or Kodak's photo gallery, posting on a Blog, and all the current capabilities and extensions for Firefox. The downside? It will eat more CPU than Firefox due to the built in capabilities.

The question here is, "Will this be the future of Firefox, Social Web Browsing?" There will be lots of people who will use Firefox to Work and not play, but then again it's only logical that Firefox will evolve into a social web browser, and should it choose to do so, there will be a large crowd that will follow. What's your take?

Doubleclick Worth $1.65 Billion

Google has purchased Doubleclick for $1.65 Billion Dollars and is valued even more so than YouTube. Doubleclick has been selling advertisement to more than 6,000 companies for 11 years. Their profits have risen and fallen as the market's unexpected turns rise and fall through the years. This is something Microsoft and even Yahoo should be interested in as the Corporate Giants are falling behind in generating Ad revenue such as Google is doing. The purchase of Doubleclick, in theory, could rise profits from ads. There are plenty of other companies worth purchasing if such an idea strikes their fancy. Companies like Valueclick perhaps?

eBay's Whitman Ready to Call it Quits?

eBays CEO, Meg Whitman, is nearing the 10 year dead line running as the company's Chief Exectuive. Whitman, should she choose to retire, has become a billionarie running the Leading Market Giant for all these years and will have no problem finding a new job in the corporate world. She could try her hand at politics? Recent reports suggest that she already has a head start in as a national finance co-chair for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the 2008 campaign.

Critics argue that, even though the company has held steady it has shown sluggish growth. eBay should think twice about filling in the gap from within the company. Who will fill the gap should Whitman decide to leave?

Mind Mapping

The industry of Mind Mapping software has grown at an unprecedented rate. There have been numerous softwares created to fulfill this new niche of customers. From Open Source, to freeware, to shareware, there are lots of applications to try out. Personally I like to recommend most Open Source software as they are the best types of softwares created. Of course that doesn't mean it's the leading type of software. The big fish taking over the market is MindManager, which according to Wikipedia, takes up 72.6% of the users. Freemind is an OpenSource alternative and accounts for a little less than 10.4%. Feel free to try them out.

There have been recent studies that show that the use of these tools could improve your learning by up to 15%. Some are 2d, others come in 3d, and others are web based. More info on Mind Mapping software can be found here.

The Evolution of the Internet

The definition of the Internet by Wikipedia is: "the worldwide, publicly accessible network of interconnected computer Networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP)."

The pubaccsi interco what?? Ladies and Gentlemen, The Enjoyable Version:

The creation of the internet dates back to the Cold War and is due, believe it or not, to the Government and it's competition against Russia in the 60s, more specifically the US Military racing against the launch of Sputnick. The Government created DARPA, headed by J.C.R. Licklider from MIT and this is where the original idea of the "NETWORK" (interconnected computers connected together and communicating with each other) was born. The original name of the internet was ARPANET. This sparked a whole series of events that gave way to the internet we know and love today. As a result, mankind has changed the way we communicate and to some of us, the way we work. Here is a detailed time line for a more detailed view.

We are witnessing a new evolution that we need to understand. Sadly, those who choose to ignore this change will soon be struggling to keep up. There are more and more people who are discovering the potential of the internet and what it has to offer. This new phase has been dubbed WEB 2.0 by O'Reilly Media in 2004. Web 2.0 simply means the second phase of the internet in regards to the way it's used by popular demand such as blogs, wikis, podcasting, etc... Go here for a detailed chart explaining the difference between the first phase of the internet and the current phase (or Web 2.0).

India and China (and now Latin America) are taking over millions of American Jobs via outsourcing due to massive company savings. I can vouch for that, I took a job in Colombia once and the company grew incredibly fast. Professional web workers are out there happily making a buck (and more) either by running a site or a blog with affiliate links, pay per click links, or selling ad space.

YouTube and MySpace rank 4th and 5th as the most visited sites in the world, which means that the young generation is really absorbed by this evolution. I mean, what the hey! Not only is it huge, free to explore, and powerful, it can also make you money! What's not to love?

Welcome to Vapaeso!

Welcome one and welcome all! Alright enough with the intro and straight to the point. This Blog is dedicated to one of the greatest inventions the world has seen, The Internet.

Technology is moving at a rapid pace, and it has become one of my hobbies to read up on what's new and popular with the internet, where it's headed, and what it can do for me and you. We share, download, publish (upload), talk, meet, discuss, argue, propose, learn, study, listen, understand and do countless other things on the web everyday. Some people are even earning an income from the comfort of their own homes!

This is my first blog, so please bare with me while I get this project of the ground. Any feedback is more than welcome!
