Russian's Laws on the Web.

Read this:

"In March, Putin signed a decree merging two existing federal agencies – one for media oversight and the protection of culture, the other for telecommunications monitoring – into a single body, the Federal Service for the Oversight of Mass Communications and Protection of Cultural Heritage. It is perhaps no accident that the Russian word for 'oversight' used in the agency's name, nadzor, has a somewhat sinister ring for a Russian speaker: It commonly refers to the supervision of a prisoner. The new agency, which will start its work in about three months, will oversee and license broadcasters, the print media, and websites."
Can you Image that? What if this were to happen in your part of the world? I live in Colombia so I'm still waiting for much better ADSL technology to arrive, but come on... this is ridiculos. Thank GOD for democracy right? This news story for me, and hopefully for some of you, really hit me.

Now I have a question: Is that even possible? Now what Russia wants to do is control the Internet. But think about it, just like anywhere else in the world with acces to the World Wide Web, taking control of it means taking control of a culture. The Governement wants to control the people's opinions, hobbies, voices, etc... I don't think it's possible at all. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
