I Learned Something New!

I learned about Epigenesis today! It's pretty interesting stuff.

I just wanted to take a little break and lay back for a sex.., I mean sec. Basically I just wanted to share some of the things I enjoy doing on the Internet now a days. First and foremost, I love to learn. It's just one of those things I can never get tired of doing. My weakness, however, is that I get bored on a subject to quickly, and instead of absorbing all the information on a subject, I take in only what I can stand and then I move on to the next interesting thing I want to learn about.

Pause a second. What do you mostly do on the Web? If you're the type to just browse, get bored, and do something else. Your only using a fraction of a very capable learning tool that's sitting right in front of your face. I admit I don't just use the Web to just learn and read stuff. I also watch YouTube you know. Then again there's some very cool videos on YouTube that can teach you a couple of things. Anyways I would love to see a couple of comments right about now... Ok, kidding.

Russian's Laws on the Web.

Read this:

Can you Image that? What if this were to happen in your part of the world? I live in Colombia so I'm still waiting for much better ADSL technology to arrive, but come on... this is ridiculos. Thank GOD for democracy right? This news story for me, and hopefully for some of you, really hit me.

Now I have a question: Is that even possible? Now what Russia wants to do is control the Internet. But think about it, just like anywhere else in the world with acces to the World Wide Web, taking control of it means taking control of a culture. The Governement wants to control the people's opinions, hobbies, voices, etc... I don't think it's possible at all. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Is Porn Losing Popularity on the Web?

A couple of months ago saw a hilarious WOW video clip. If I remember correctly it was about a Troll singing, repeatedly, "The Internet is for porn." Then a cow would appear and state otherwise, saying how we use it for plenty of other things like content sharing, chatting, and whatnot. I tend to agree with both the troll and the cow.

Ever since the 90s, the Internet has become the porn addicts hang out spot. Making up a large part of the Internet community. All types of porn can be found on the web, and NO I won't go into the details of how people can find certain things erotic on the web... Anyways, recently I read an article on the Economists about the recent decline of porn activity on the web. It states that in the first quarter of 2007 there has been a significant decline in PORN on the web.

I would be retarded to state that I wasn't familiar with porn content. However, as time goes on, newer and better constructive uses can be found for the Internet other than sharing porn content. Could it be that the community is finally maturing?

We use the Internet, and the Internet uses us.

I ran into this excellent video on YouTube. It's really great considering the way it makes you think about how Web 2.0 is developing. Basically we are using the internet, and the internet is using us. At one point it mentions how each time we create a new link or hypertext, we are teaching the internet new content, or giving it more life. As it expands and evolves into too much information, who will be able to organize the content it so that it can actually be found? Sure enough we have been leaving this task to Google, without our intervention nor hearing our suggestions. Now with Web 2.0, there are Social Bookmarks, Blogs, Podcasts, Wikis... user sharing content is what it's all about. We are setting the stage. Watch the video!

Google's Power on the Rise

Microsoft may be unmatched in computer software, but who is dominating the scene on the world wide web? Well, unless you've been living under a rock on an Island of the shores of Antarctica, Google is! The company which started as a research project back in January of 1996 and what used to be called, "Backrub," is clearly becoming the web's most dominating company. Their HQ, named "Googleplex," is located in Mountain View, California and has been voted by Forbes as the Number 1 company to work for in January 2007.

The company is clearly dominating the web. Think about it, they basically store all of the Internet's Content on their servers. In other words they could, in theory, have a copy of the internet's content. Mix that with their advertisement power and who knows when they will surpass Microsoft. Google: The Future of the Internet

Google is the most powerful search engine on the planet. Its used by millions of people from all over the world. But how does it manage to differentiate the right search result from the rest of the trash? The Answer: "PageRank." A complex mathematical formula which, to put it simply, labels a website as imporant depending on how many times it's link shows up on other websites. In other words if Page A shows up on Pages B, C, D.... all the way to Page Z, then it would have a high PageRank.



Also, the more important the page, the higher the rank will be. As an example, if www.vapaeso.com happens to be linked in www.google.com or www.microsoft.com, then you can bet that by the next day www.vapaeso.com will have a higher PageRank because Google and Microsoft are important web sites. Doubleclick Worth $1.65 Billion

Google has purchased Doubleclick for $1.65 Billion Dollars and is valued even more so than YouTube. Doubleclick has been selling advertisement to more than 6,000 companies for 11 years. Their profits have risen and fallen as the market's unexpected turns rise and fall through the years. This is something Microsoft and even Yahoo should be interested in as the Corporate Giants are falling behind in generating Ad revenue such as Google is doing. The purchase of Doubleclick, in theory, could rise profits from ads. There are plenty of other companies worth purchasing if such an idea strikes their fancy. Companies like Valueclick perhaps?

The Evolution of the Internet

The definition of the Internet by Wikipedia is: "the worldwide, publicly accessible network of interconnected computer Networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP)."

The creation of the internet dates back to the Cold War and is due, believe it or not, to the Government and it's competition against Russia in the 60s, more specifically the US Military racing against the launch of Sputnick. The Government created DARPA, headed by J.C.R. Licklider from MIT and this is where the original idea of the "NETWORK" (interconnected computers connected together and communicating with each other) was born. The original name of the internet was ARPANET. This sparked a whole series of events that gave way to the internet we know and love today. As a result, mankind has changed the way we communicate and to some of us, the way we work. Here is a detailed time line for a more detailed view.

We are witnessing a new evolution that we need to understand. Sadly, those who choose to ignore this change will soon be struggling to keep up. There are more and more people who are discovering the potential of the internet and what it has to offer. This new phase has been dubbed WEB 2.0 by O'Reilly Media in 2004. Web 2.0 simply means the second phase of the internet in regards to the way it's used by popular demand such as blogs, wikis, podcasting, etc... India and China (and now Latin America) are taking over millions of American Jobs via outsourcing due to massive company savings. I can vouch for that, I took a job in Colombia once and the company grew incredibly fast. Professional web workers are out there happily making a buck (and more) either by running a site or a blog with affiliate links, pay per click links, or selling ad space.

YouTube and MySpace rank 4th and 5th as the most visited sites in the world, which means that the young generation is really absorbed by this evolution. I mean, what the hey! Not only is it huge, free to explore, and powerful, it can also make you money! What's not to love?
